Miami-Dade County is home to two national parks, plus our state and local park systems are extensive, offering horseback riding, batting cages, bike rentals, picnic areas, restaurants, tennis courts and much more. Biscayne National Park, Everglades National Park, Bill Baggs-Cape Florida State Park, Greynolds Park, Tropical Park and many others provide fun in the sun away from the beach.

The Donald Ross Golf Course at the Biltmore is a 6,800-yard, 18 hole, Par 71, championship golf course. The course was designed in 1925 by Donald Ross, the pre-eminent golf designer of his era. The course, acknowledged as one of the finest resort layouts in the south, has always attracted dignitaries, movie stars and sport luminaries. The facility features a Pro Shop, golf instruction and numerous golf programs and packages. The full-service Golf Shop offers custom fitting on a wide range of products from Callaway to Tehama. Biscayne National Park

Within sight of downtown Miami, yet worlds away, this park is the largest marine park in the national park system. It protects and preserves a marine eco-system with living, fish-bejeweled coral reefs, mangrove shorelines, a shallow bay, and emerald islands. Dante Fascell Visitor Center (open 9am-5pm) houses a museum, art gallery, auditorium/environmental and educational discovery room. Glass-bottom boat tours of the bay and reefs, snorkeling and scuba diving trips, canoe and kayak rentals (island excursions for sightseeing are available November-May). Open daily 7am-5:30pm.

The oldest structure in Miami-Dade County, the 95-foot-high Cape Florida Lighthouse at the tip of Key Biscayne has been restored to its authentic 1855 condition in Bill Baggs State Park. This tower has survived hurricanes, an 1836 Seminole Indian attack and several fires. Park also offers an award-winning beach, bike paths, an oceanfront and a harbor-front café and fishing. Country Club of Miami is comprised of two beautifully manicured Florida golf courses, with lush fairways, newly re-grassed greens and 36 championship holes. A Robert Trent Jones design, the club was founded in 1961, with Arnold Palmer as its first professional. The Country Club of Miami West Course, a 7,017-yard Par 72 course with a slope of 132, hosted the 1991 Senior PGA Tour National Qualifying School. Its treacherous bunkers, lush fairways, and rolling greens offer a challenging adventure. The Country Club of Miami East Course, a 6,353-yard Par 70 layout with a slope of 124, requires shot placement and strategy from both the novice and serious golfer. A new grass driving range, large pitching, putting and chipping areas and PGA instructions assist golfers in developing their games.

The Crandon golf course is a championship 18 hole golf course located on the island paradise of Key Biscayne, just 10 minutes from downtown Miami. It is the perfect alternative to civilization where you can spend a day enveloped by the tropics. With 1.5 million acres of watery wilderness, Everglades National Park is the third largest national park in the lower 48 states of the U.S. This "River of Grass" is home to wading birds, alligators, fish, turtles, snakes and other wildlife, including endangered species such as the manatee, the wood stork and the Florida panther. There are four park entrances: Royal Palm, Shark Valley, Flamingo and Gulf Coast. A good way to visit the Everglades is to walk the boardwalks and trails along the main park road and join in ranger-led events. Fruit and Spice Park

The Fruit & Spice Park is a 37-acre public facility, and the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the U.S. The park's tropical climate can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. and hosts more than 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and nuts, and other commercially important plant specimens from around the world. Greynolds Park

Once a rock quarry, it is now a 249-acre park consisting of a variety of habitats, most notably a relatively intact hardwood hammock and mangrove forest; Greynolds has bike and nature trails, a boathouse, paddle boats, canoes and kayaks, bird rookery, volleyball nets and a nine-hole regulation golf course (305-949-1741). Greynolds Golf Course provides a 3,100-yard challenging layout. This Par 36 course, designed by Mark Mahannah in 1964, is one of the county’s most popular 9 hole designs for all levels of play. Palmetto Golf Course is a Par 70 Championship Miami course, built on 121 acres. The 18 hole course, designed by Dick Wilson and built in 1959 by developers Porter, Russell and Wagor, was purchased by Miami-Dade County in 1967. This facility has a serpentine canal system that flows across and alongside palmetto tree-lined fairways, making this an attractive, as well as challenging course to play.
